Sept. 12 - Sept. 13, 2013

RICHMOND POLICE DEPARTMENT
DAILY CRIME REPORT

Sept. 12 – Sept. 13, 2013

Today’s Good News
Dumb criminal alert! If you’re selling drugs from your car and honking to alert your customers that you’re outside, you may also want to pay attention to the police officer sitting next door at a neighborhood meeting. That was the case recently for First Precinct Lt. Dan Minton who was attending a community meeting on Williamsburg Road, but went to speak with the man in the vehicle after his repeated honking interrupted the meeting.

The driver was looking down—watching a TV show on his in-car TV--and didn’t even notice Lt. Minton until he was standing next to the car. As the driver looked up, his eyes got wide and Lt. Minton quickly saw why: there was a bag of crack cocaine in the man’s lap. A further search revealed thousands of dollars in cash on the man’s person as well as a scale, a bag of heroin and firearm. The items were seized and the man was subsequently charged with multiple felonies. Oh, and if you’re wondering what he was watching on TV, it was a show about—and we’re not joking--drug dealing.
