Nov. 25 – Nov. 26, 2013

Today’s Good News
Usually when you open a box of Prada shoes, it’s a treat for your feet, but as three Fourth Precinct officers recently discovered, there was another type of surprise inside such a box during a recent search. A vehicle driving recklessly in Gilpin Court initially caught the attention of Officers Austin Darnell, Benjamin Neifeld and Justin Hall so they stopped the vehicle and asked to search it after speaking with the occupants.

As Officer Austin interviewed the driver who was driving on a suspended license, Officer Hall found and opened the shoe box, discovering several large chunks of suspected cocaine. The officers also found more than $12,000 in one of the individual’s pockets. Both driver and passenger were arrested and charged with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute. Good work officers!

Today’s Good News
A woman recently wrote to commend Third Precinct Master Patrol Officer William Campbell and Officer Daniel Minor for their assistance even though she initially didn’t want their help. “I just wanted to say thank you to the two officers who came to check on me recently when my neighbor called 911. I had taken an overdose of pills and the officers that answered the 911 call convinced me to go to the hospital for help,” she wrote. “I know many times officers do not get the recognition they deserve, but I wanted to say thank you for all you do to keep Richmond safe, not only from criminals, but from those that want to harm themselves.”

With the assistance of Officers Jerry Scarborough and James Jackson, the driver was stopped and taken into custody. Nov. 20 – Nov. 21, 2013

Today’s Good News
Several Fourth Precinct officers recently responded to a chaotic situation downtown that started with a report of an armed person before an officer heard gunshots and spotted three individuals running in different directions. Officer Steve Rawlings was flagged down by two victims who said they’d just been robbed at gunpoint. He quick broadcast their descriptions while at the same time Officer Lance Falkena spotted the suspects running and immediately gave chase. He captured one man while First Precinct Officers Jordan Clark and Jermaine Easter captured another. The third suspect eluded officers at the time. Officers Brad Hirst and John Story stopped a vehicle leaving the area that they thought was involved, but it turned out to be another victim from a second, related incident.

After further investigation by Detectives Kristie Reed and James Higgins, officers determined the suspects had robbed a couple at gunpoint and then tried to carjack a man who they then shot at when he drove off. The officers recovered the firearm in a nearby alley and charged both men with robbery, firearm charges and attempted carjacking. The investigation remains ongoing and additional charges are pending Good work officers and detectives!
