Daily Crime Report

Today’s Good News
First Precinct Officers Michael Bryson and Brian Parker recently spotted a stolen car used in an armed robbery earlier that evening. Though the vehicle fled, officers caught it and arrested the four suspects inside. In addition to recovering a gun, the officers, with the help of Detective Chuck Howell, also charged the four with armed robbery, possession of stolen property and felony eluding.

While the Focus Mission Team Anti-Crime Unit was recently investigating people for trespassing, First Precinct Sgt. Victor Greene and Detective Brian Taylor approached an individual who began acting suspiciously. The man ran away, but the officers caught and arrested him after finding a gun and drugs in his possession.

Sector 411 Officers Ashley Wood and Anthony L. Jackson were patrolling 5th Avenue recently when a motorist advised they were just involved in a hit and run. The officers immediately began searching for the vehicle, found it, and after an investigation, charged the occupants with felony hit and run, possession of marijuana, possession of a firearm while in possession of marijuana and reckless driving.

Today’s Good News
Third Precinct Officers Kelly Morley and Stacey Rogers recently stopped a man for suspicious activity on Westover Hills Boulevard. The man, who had three outstanding warrants, ran away. Though he was not captured, the officers found his identification as well as several large amounts of drugs in his vehicle, which added five more warrants for his arrest.

Today’s Good News
During the last three months of 2009, Sector 111 had the largest crime reduction in the city. That includes a 29 percent reduction in Major Crime, a 13 percent reduction in violent crime and a 31 percent reduction in property crime. Sector 111 Lt. James Laino says this success was made possible by the collaborative effort between the police and the community.

Third Precinct Officers Ben Frazer and Steven Gibson recently arrested an individual on Midlothian Turnpike who was wanted on three outstanding warrants. The officers also found a significant quantity of crack cocaine, thousands of dollars worth of stolen property and this individual will face additional criminal charges in North Carolina resulting from their stop. Good work!

Today’s Good News
A Henrico County Communications Officer recently called to compliment Third Precinct Officer Joseph Ronan for an outstanding job he did while off duty. Officer Ronan reported a drunk driver by calling in information and following the driver until Henrico Police arrived. Because of Ronan’s concern for safety, the driver was arrested for DUI.

A Richmond Police SWAT callout on the first day of the year ended peacefully with the apprehension of a suspect. Negotiations lasted several hours at a residence on Moss Side Avenue but ended with no injuries to police or the suspect, who is charged with domestic assault, abduction and possession of a firearm by a felon.
