Sept. 27 – Sept. 28, 2012

Today’s Good News
Third Precinct Officers Ralph Mills, Jay Riley and Ronald Thurston recently responded to Hanover Avenue to investigate a mid-day burglary and as they approached, they spotted two men running from the home. With the assistance of Officers Patrick Warner, Tony Cornett, Jennifer Barlow, Kenneth Jacob and K-9 Officer Walter Stone and K-9 Macon, they quickly set up a perimeter and arrested both men without incident. And thanks to Officer Riley’s canvas of the area, he found a witness who put the burglars inside a vehicle that was also located and searched. Good work officers!

Sept. 26 – Sept. 27, 2012

Today’s Good News
It started off as a simple investigation, but a recent arrest by Third Precinct officers may solve several car break-ins in the Fan neighborhood. Officers Jennifer Barlow and John Raina responded to a gas station at Broad and Boulevard to investigate a fraud call and detained a man who they suspected of using stolen credit cards at that location. While interviewing the man, he casually dumped a handful of credit cards into the trashcan. Officer Raina retrieved them and traced them back to a woman whose car had been broken into the night before. With the assistance of Detectives William Cutshall, Eric Sandlin, Don Grata and Jack Larry and Sgt. Anthony Papaleo, the man was interviewed and his residence searched. All of that hard work resulted in a confession to numerous car break-ins and the discovery of several stolen items. Good job everyone!

Sept. 20 – Sept. 21, 2012

Today’s Good News
The Richmond Police Department recently enjoyed a visit from a retired policeman from France and his friend who enjoyed their experience so much that they wrote to the Times-Dispatch about it: “It is a visit every citizen protected by this outstanding group of men and women should make. It is all too easy to take their service, their protection for granted. We have learned to thank our men and women in military uniform, but how easy it is to take for granted that same service on the home front,” they wrote. “I ask the citizens of Richmond and all areas this: The next time you see a police officer, thank him or her. The police risk all each and every day for us. Even those thanks can never repay the debt we owe them.”
