Today’s Good News
Third Precinct Officers Glendon Cox and Keir Hinton recently responded to investigate a burglary on North Hamilton Street in the middle of the night. Though the would-be burglar was scared off by the homeowner, officers found him a few streets away. The man gave false information to the officers and denied trying to break into the residence, but after further investigation he was charged with attempted burglary and identity fraud. Good work officers!

Today’s Good News
After a significant increase in burglaries and thefts in the Blackwell and Oak Grove neighborhoods during the past two months, First Precinct Detective George Mihalcoe and Officer Jonathan Davis coordinated their efforts to deter these crimes and arrest the offenders. Both officers were on duty recently when a call came in for a burglary in progress. While en route to the location, Officer Davis observed a man pushing a trash can full of aluminum siding down the street. He took note of the location and man’s description and communicated with Detective Mihalcoe, who advised him to detain the possible suspect while Detective Mihalcoe checked the residence. Thanks to their coordinated efforts, they interviewed the home’s owner and learned the man had stolen the siding despite his insistence that he had permission to do so. They charged him with grand larceny and destruction of property. These officers should be recognized for their professionalism, dedication to duty and investigative skills.

Second Precinct Officer Benito Frias recently responded to a business to assist other officers during an investigation on the Southside when something caught his eye in the business’s parking lot: narcotics left in plain sight in a vehicle. After people were removed from the business, Officer Frias followed up with the vehicle’s owner and arrested him for marijuana possession. He also seized a firearm found in the vehicle. Officer Frias showed a great attention to detail and follow through with his proactive investigation. Good work!

Today’s Good News
There may have been a hurricane passing near the area at the time, but that didn’t stop Richmond Police! Third Precinct Officer Ben Frazer recently approached a residence on Argyle Terrace to investigate a possible burglary and as he did so, he spotted five men inside. They ran from him, but he anticipated their efforts to escape out of the back of the home. He circled around and the group ran back toward the front door. With the assistance of Sgt. Anthony Papaleo, Officers Shawn Nunnally and Luke Geiger and K-9 Officer James Turner, the officers were able to set up a perimeter and safely arrest the group. Detective Charles Kane interviewed the burglars who admitted their crimes and were charged appropriately. Good work everyone!

Never give up! That seems to be the motto of Second Precinct Officer Greg Boyles. Here’s why: Officer Boyles recently stopped a vehicle for an equipment violation, but the driver ran away after stopping the vehicle. Officer Boyles gave chase and directed additional units in the area, but could not find the suspect. Fifteen minutes later, Officer Boyles refused to give up and back tracked his steps. That’s when he found the suspect hiding in a garden shed. He arrested him without incident and charged him with an outstanding warrant and cocaine possession. Good job Officer Boyles!

Today’s Good News
Many people mow their yards. However, few of them do so at midnight, and that’s what caught the eye of First Precinct Officer Joseph MacKnight recently. Officer MacKnight spotted the man pushing the lawnmower down the middle of Maury Street and stopped to ask him what he was doing. After getting several answers that didn’t make sense and with the assistance of Officer Brian Wilson, the officers retraced the man’s steps and discovered that he had stolen the lawnmower from a nearby residence. The man was arrested and the lawnmower returned to its rightful owner.

Today’s Good News
Second Precinct Officer Randy Hager recently responded to Summerhill Avenue to investigate a call about a wanted person. After Communications Officer Justin Waitt heard the wanted person make several threatening statements to the officer and then run, he dispatched additional units who set up a perimeter and helped arrest the man within minutes. Thanks to everyone’s hard work and quick response, the wanted man was safely arrested and served with warrants for robbery, burglary and destruction of property from another jurisdiction. Good job!

Thanks to Second Precinct Officer Anthony Ratliff’s thinking ahead, two burglars have been quickly arrested. The burglars broke into a business and stole various auto parts, including radiators and catalytic converters, but Officer Ratliff figured out their ultimate goal. He notified the two salvage years in the area near the business and that afternoon received a call that two men were there trying to sell catalytic converters. Officer Ratliff quickly responded and after investigating, found the men in possession of the stolen items from the business. He arrested them both on several charges. Good work!

Today’s Good News
Kudos to Officer Ryan Donald who was named Fourth Precinct’s Officer of the Month for October! Officer Donald displays a solid work ethic, attention to detail and spirit of cooperation that has caught the eye of the entire Fourth Precinct. He leads his platoon in stats and consistently volunteers to handle the toughest problems in his sector so it is no surprise that he has been given opportunities to work in special assignments in the precinct.
One example occurred last month when Officer Donald stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation, but immediately recognized that there was more going on. After further investigation, he seized a firearm, marijuana and nearly $10,000 in cash. This is just one of several instances where Officer Donald’s dedication to the job and keen observation skills can be seen. Thank you Officer Donald!

Today’s Good News
Kudos to Officer Heather Truong who was named Third Precinct’s Officer of the Month for October! Maybe the two times bicyclists collided into the side of her police car were a call to action. After Officer Truong shook off the disbelief that it could happen not once – but twice – she launched a bicycle operation safety initiative. She joined forces with the Sector 313 bicycle unit to roll out the project – aimed to educate cyclists who were riding the wrong way on streets, riding without headlights and those who failed to obey simple traffic laws. Truong’s strategy was not to write summonses – although that did occur – but her goal was to discuss safe bicycle operation, distribute safety flyers, illustrate the importance of properly securing the bikes, and to record serial numbers.
Truong also focused on noise complaints this past month – visiting 17 businesses in a pro-active attempt to find satisfactory solutions. Thank you Officer Truong!

Today’s Good News
Kudos to Officer Mary Gary who was named First Precinct’s Officer of the Month for October! She’s received this recognition before for her tireless, dedicated efforts. But why again? In the words of her supervisor, her stats are just “unmatched.” During October, Officer Gary issued 39 summonses; made 21 misdemeanor arrests; issued 23 parking tickets; served three warrants; made three drug seizures; obtained four search warrants, and; responded to 83 calls for service. But that’s not all! She’s also been busy with community outreach, talking with several groups of children about a variety of issues. Thank you Officer Gary!
