April 27 – April 30, 2012

Today’s Good News
Fourth Precinct Officer Ashley Wood was the first officer on scene recently when a man came home to find three men burglarizing his apartment. As the men ran away in different directions, Officers Wood, Robert Capocelli, Thomas Neale, Allen Frank, Lt. Brian Corrigan, Detective John Walker and Lt. Herman Loney gave chase and caught each one. The officers also helped recover many of the stolen items either on or near the offenders, who were all charged with burglary, grand larceny and other crimes. Good teamwork!

April 25 – April 26, 2012

Today’s Good News
Third Precinct Master Patrol Officer Roger Yutzey recently responded to German School Road to investigate a missing elderly woman who suffered from dementia. He worked through a language barrier to learn that the woman had been missing in cold temperatures only wearing pajamas that night. With a wind chill factor of 34 degrees, Third Precinct Officers Kenneth Harris, Nakisha Franks, Kelly Morley, Chris Williams, Joseph Ronan, Jacob DeBoard and Michael Kiniry fanned out to search the building and surrounding property. K9 Officers Sammy Hernandez and Monty Agee with K9 Niko and Koda also volunteered to assist in the search while Officers Gary Venable and Carl Scott worked together to cover all the other precinct calls during this time.

About 45 minutes later, Officers DeBoard and Kiniry found the woman with minor injuries huddled by a tree. Both officers quickly wrapped their jackets around her and Officer Kiniry covered her head with his stocking cap until an ambulance arrived. Thanks to the quick thinking, actions and teamwork of all of these officers, they diverted possible tragedy and reunited the woman with her family. Good job!

Today’s Good News
K9 Officer Monty Agee and K9 Koda recently responded to assist another law enforcement agency with a search for three burglars in a wooded area at night. K9 Koda worked a long track through the woods and eventually came out into a parking lot and began to alert on a closed dumpster. One of the burglars was found hiding inside and arrested without incident. Officer Koda then sniffed out another burglar’s jacket, which will be a key piece of evidence in identifying that person. Officer Agee and K9 Koda did a great job and also showed how well they work with other agencies. Nice job!

April 20 – April 23, 2012

Today’s Good News
K9 Officer Sammy Hernandez and K9 Niko recently responded one evening to search a building on 1st Avenue for a burglary suspect. Officer Hernandez gave several K9 warnings inside the building and, after receiving no response, let K9 Niko began his search inside the building. K9 Niko soon alerted to a room covered by a curtain. As K9 Niko began to enter, the man quickly yelled to officers that he was there and Officer Hernandez recalled K9 Niko. The man was taken into custody without incident and charged with burglary. K9 Niko did a great job of locating the suspect and providing safety to officers while Officer Hernandez reacted quickly to prevent further incident or injury to the suspect. Great job!
