Today’s Good News
Just
before midnight one day last week, several Fourth
Precinct officers responded to investigate a person who’d just been shot in
the 4200 block of North Avenue. Officers
Ryan Donald and Gene Carter spoke with the victim and broadcast the
suspects’ descriptions. Officer Nicholas
Stirrett was in the 4000 block of Old Brook Road where he saw two
individuals standing in the cut; one of them matched the description of the suspect. Officer Stirrett started to walk toward the
individuals and as he approached the two men, Stirrett immediately recognized
one of them who quickly walked away in the opposite direction of the second man
who quickly took off running.
Officer
Stirrett followed the man running and saw him drop a firearm, which officers
recovered, as he continued to run, ignoring Officer Stirrett’s commands to
stop. He was eventually apprehended by
other responding units.
After
being interviewed by Detective William Travers, the man was charged with
possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, obstruction of justice and additional
charges are pending. Thanks to all this hard work, one suspect was arrested,
the second suspect identified and the firearm recovered. Great job by Fourth Precinct patrol officers and members of the K-9 Unit for their quick
response and apprehension!
“In
this one incident, you see the attributes that make such fine officers:
attention to detail, knowledge of their community and real drive to make the
city better,” Fourth Precinct Captain
Michael Snawder said.
