Today’s Good News
It was truly a team effort response from First and Second Precinct officers recently to catch the man who carjacked two
men at gunpoint on Columbia Street. Officers
Rebekah Moore and Nathaniel Reese interviewed the victims and broadcast the
suspect’s description and last known direction of travel. While Officer Reese
stayed with the victims, a few minutes later Officers Moore, Luther Burdette and Teru Hayashi spotted the
vehicle on Ruffin Road and attempted to stop it, but the offender refused to
stop and eventually crashed into a fence and ran away on foot.
Officers Michael
Ellison and Joseph MacKnight pursued the man and safely took him into
custody as well as recovered the firearm he used. Based on their investigation,
the officers charged the man with carjacking, being a convicted felon carrying
a concealed weapon, use of a firearm by a convicted felon, destruction of
property, felony eluding police and driving on a suspended license. Good
teamwork!
