Today’s Good News
During
the Hanover County Sheriff’s Department annual award ceremony last week,
Sheriff David Hines recognized RPD
Fourth Precinct Sergeant D.A. Miles for his tremendous help in fighting
regional scrap metal theft issues. “Due to his access to a large amount of
information within the City of Richmond concerning scrap yards, Sergeant Miles
has always provided timely information to the Sheriff’s Office. Initially,
Sergeant Miles had only one contact within the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office
for metal theft information. But as cases began to increase, he was sought out
by others within our agency for information,” the sheriff said.
“Numerous
arrests have been made based on assistance from Sergeant Miles, and his work is
a model of cooperation between jurisdictions for crime that knows no boundary. Though
he was reassigned within the police department, Sergeant Miles felt a focus on
combating metal thefts was so important he maintained his contacts with area
investigators. Even after he was reassigned to a different area of
responsibility, he continued to be the “go-to guy” for metal related thefts.
“Sergeant
Miles is retiring at the end of May 2014 after 31 years of police service. His
assistance will be sorely missed. For his hard work and dedication to the
Hanover Sheriff’s Office and his commitment to making a positive impact in the
community, we recognize Sgt. Miles for the Excellent Service to Law
Enforcement. Thank you Sergeant Miles!”
