Today’s Good News
Kudos
to Second Precinct Detective Derrick
Longoria who was named the Department’s
Problem Solver of the Month for February! Last month, Detective Longoria
investigated 24 incidents, ranging from robberies to burglaries to larcenies.
He cleared, exceptionally cleared or un-founded nearly 20 of those. As a
result, his clearance rate for the month was more than 79 percent!
That’s more than TRIPLE the national
average for property crime clearance rates.
Here are a couple of examples: To
investigate a series of armed robberies that originated due to an advertisement
offering to sell iPhones, Detective Longoria decided to pose as a potential
buyer. On the day of the transaction, instead of meeting the detective, the
seller was arrested by two uniformed officers who recovered a firearm in his
pants pocket. Detective Longoria got a confession from the seller, a juvenile,
who admitted to three armed robberies and his intent to commit a fourth – but
he didn’t get the chance.
Detective Longoria also cracked the
case of several stolen vehicles, one of them a city fire truck. When he learned
that a person had been arrested in another jurisdiction driving a
decommissioned fire truck, he interviewed the suspect and got a confession to
the theft of the city fire truck along with a few other burglaries.
Talk about some great investigative
work! Thank you and congratulations to Detective Derrick Longoria!
