Dec. 18 – Dec. 19, 2013

Today’s Good News
Kudos to First Precinct Officer Harold Ford who was named the Department’s Problem Solver of the Month for November! As the environmental officer, Ford handles quality of life issues every day that often lead to bigger problems if not taken care of. In the past month, he noticed several issues, but he was not content to tackle them one by one. Instead, he took a global view, creating an action plan and community task force to attack the problems of overgrown vegetation, vacant properties used for drug dealing and prostitution as well as uncut debris in alleyways making them impassable for emergency vehicles.

He identified key locations that needed attention and reached out for help from City Councilwoman Cynthia Newbille, members of the CAO’s office, Public Works, Code Enforcement and volunteers from RPD, the neighborhoods, VCU and VUU and those doing community service to maximize his efforts. And boy did he! While working on this project, Officer Ford and his crews cleaned a total of nine vacant lots, conducted two street cleanings, conducted a community walk and addressed 20 locations for various code violations.

And yet he still wasn’t satisfied. To finalize his efforts, he coordinated a community clean up with all of these partners who participated in several hours of clean up along the 25th Street corridor. Good work and thank you, Officer Harold Ford!
