Third Precinct
Officer Bernard Kenny
may have been off duty and driving home recently, but that didn’t stop him from
making an arrest when he saw a crime in progress. As he was driving, he spotted
a young man spray painting the side of the foot bridge at Grayland Avenue and
Harrison Street and stopped to detain him. After further investigation, he
charged the man with destruction of property. But Officer Kenny also recognizes
the importance of mentoring some of the younger offenders he comes into contact
with during such investigations.
That’s why he decided to mentor one such juvenile he suspected of committing property crimes in the area. After speaking with the juvenile’s parents, who wholeheartedly supported his approach, Officer Kenny visited with the juvenile weekly to check up on him and help redirect the young man’s energy while he was out of school for the summer. By working to affect positive social change through a personalized and effective approach to crime fighting, Officer Kenny is improving the quality of life for all of us. Thank you Officer Kenny!
