Kudos
to Second Precinct Detective Derrick
Longoria who was named the Department’s
Problem Solver of the Month for July! Not only does Detective Longoria have
a higher-than-the-national-average clearance rate, but he has also been
successful in reducing the number of false robbery reports.
One
example occurred in early July when he interviewed a store clerk who claimed
the store had been robbed by two people, including an armed man who was out of
range of the surveillance video. After Detective Longoria explained to the
clerk that she could be subpoenaed by the multi-jurisdictional grand jury and
the implications of lying in that context, she confessed that she had lied
about the robbery.
In
another case, Detective Longoria patiently interviewed an alleged victim who
said he had been beaten and robbed on Broad Rock Boulevard. He took copious
notes about what was alleged to have occurred and the timeline of events, but when
he went to check out those facts—including the actual location of the
robbery—they didn’t add up. When he re-interviewed the alleged victim, the man
complimented him by saying, “You’re a pretty good detective.”
Yes
he is, and we’re glad he’s one of ours. Thank you and congratulations Detective
