Aug. 12 – Aug. 13, 2013

Today’s Good News
Kudos to Officer Stephen Butler who was named First Precinct’s Officer of the Month for July! Officer Butler may be one of the younger officers, but you wouldn’t know it from the leadership skills he exemplifies and all the work he does. One example occurred when he and Officer Kevin Hyde stopped a man walking in the road in Whitcomb Court. Thanks to their attention to detail and further investigation, they learned the man was not only hiding a firearm on his person, but he was also hiding the fact that he was a convicted felon.

But Officer Butler also takes the time to volunteer for community events to interact with residents and build relationships. He twice volunteered for community walks last month to hand out safety tip flyers and contact information. He also took great pride when he received a challenge from his sector lieutenant to find ways to combat drug dealing, car break-ins and burglaries in his sector. He answered by using alternative patrols on foot and directed patrols that produced several quality arrests and 14 field interviews that developed several property crime suspects for detectives. Thank you and congratulations Officer Stephen Butler!
