Kudos
to Officer Thomas McGovern who was
named Third Precinct’s Officer of the
Month for September! It’s no
secret that car break-ins are big problem for Third Precinct, but it’s officers
like Thomas McGovern who are making a difference in curbing the crime. Last
month, Officer McGovern volunteered for a variety of different assignments to
address the issues, from high visibility patrol to foot patrols to
surveillances in the targeted areas. He even changed his work hours and days to
better combat the problem.
He also organized a group of officers to
set up a loose perimeter in the area of Texas Beach to Maymont Park to watch
for a vehicle of interest. The group monitored the most likely places of
entrance and exit to both locations between calls and it was Officer McGovern
who spotted the suspect vehicle. The occupants were detained, identified and
two of the men are being investigated as possible suspects in several of the
car break-ins. Good job! Thank you and congratulations Officer McGovern!
