April 9 – April 10, 2014

Today’s Good News
Teamwork is key when it comes to fighting crime, keeping officers safe and catching the bad guys. Last week, the Richmond Fire Department stepped up to the plate to help First Precinct officers during a burglary in progress call. Officers John Esposito and Chris Linn were the first officers on scene and spotted a man inside a house on North 33rd Street. They tried to get him to exit the house, but he refused and locked himself inside. That’s when K-9 Sgt. Michael Bohannon and K-9 Officer Sammy Hernandez with K-9 Niko were called to search the home. But after searching every nook and cranny with the assistance of Detective Brian Taylor, they could not find the suspect. They did, however, find a small hole leading to the attic.

That’s when RFD assisted officers by using a Thermal Imaging Camera that showed the clear outline of the man hiding in the attic. Officers yelled to the man that they could see him and knew he was in the attic. A short time later, he finally surrendered to officers. So there you have it: Proof that police officers and firefighters CAN work together! Great job everyone!
