Kudos
to Officer Anna Chhay who was named Fourth Precinct’s Officer of the Month for March!
On March 29, Officer Chhay responded
to a call and did something that many officers might not know how to do or
hesitate to do. The call was for a violent domestic incident where the victim
had been stabbed in the neck by her boyfriend. Officer Chhay was on the scene
within seconds of the call and found the victim bleeding profusely. She
immediately placed pressure on the victim’s neck to stop the bleeding and
continued to do so until paramedics arrived and loaded her into an ambulance.
The
wound was very severe and the woman could have died were it not for Officer
Chhay’s quick action. Even as she cared for this victim, Officer Chhay was
still able to visually track the offender and call in his movements to
responding officers, which helped eventually result in the man’s arrest later
that night. After the incident, Officer Chhay said she learned those
life-saving skills from SWAT Team medics
and Detectives Shane Watson and Marshall Young during her recruit training.
Good work Officer Chhay and thank you Detectives Watson and Young for teaching
your fellow officers!
