Oct. 8 – Oct. 9, 2012

Today’s Good News
Kudos to Officer Kevin Hyde who was named First Precinct’s Officer of the Month for September! Last month, Officer Hyde conducted more than 20 hours of walking patrol in Sector 113 that allowed him to more easily engage the community in which he works and develop relationships with residents that he would not necessarily encounter patrolling in his vehicle.

These patrols also allow him to make excellent unexpected arrests, such as when he saw a man shooting at another person near Luck’s Field. Though the shooter ran, Officer Hyde gave chase, safely caught him and then discovered the shooter was a convicted felon with a lengthy past involving narcotics violations. Officer Hyde’s actions led to the arrest of a violent offender and the recovery of the firearm. Officer Hyde continued his good work by catching a scooter thief as well. These two scenarios offer just a snapshot of Officer Hyde’s police work last month, but we get the picture. Great job, Officer Hyde!
