Kudos to Officer Julio Rodriguez who was named Second Precinct’s Officer of the Month for May! How do you build relationships with your neighborhood police officer if you don’t speak the language? That’s exactly where officers like Julio Rodriguez, who speak fluent Spanish, come in to bridge the gap. Officer Rodriguez is well known in the Southwood, Woodhaven and Chippenham neighborhoods these days because he gets out of his car and walks around interacting with citizens building relationships. Thanks to his efforts, the citizens know who to call for help, even when they may not know how to say it. His presence in these areas has also played a role in reducing robberies and assaults because he translates for crime victims as well as other officers, allowing them to gain more accurate information and a better understanding of what occurred.
But Officer Rodriguez doesn’t stop there. He volunteers for assignments and works with veteran officers to learn how to be more effective in combating illegal drugs. Good work and thank you Officer Rodriguez!
