June 18 – June 19, 2013

Today’s Good News

A robber may have thought he’d gotten away with robbing two people at gunpoint downtown recently, but thanks to the good observation skills and teamwork of our officers and VCU Police, he was quickly arrested. Fourth Precinct Officers David Stone and Spenser Dean were interviewing the first victim when a call came in for a second similar robbery nearby. With the assistance of Detectives Margaret Cunningham and John T. Walker, the suspect’s description was broadcast and that’s when Officer Robert Jamison spotted an individual matching the suspect’s description riding a bike on Belvidere at Franklin Street. He tried to stop the individual, but the man refused to stop.

Nearby VCU Police Officers Cecil Powell, Jason Farrow, Surafel Wondimu and Michael Cooper then spotted the suspect and with the help of RPD Officer Michael DiSalvo safely took the man into custody after he dropped the bike and ran away. After further investigation, detectives charged the man with two counts of robbery, use of a firearm during the commission of a felony and additional charges are possible. Great work officers!
