June 5 – June 6, 2012

Today’s Good News
Major Crimes Detective William Travers recently asked First Precinct Officer Anthony Catoggio to keep an eye out in his patrol area for a man wanted for a robbery and malicious wounding on the Martin Luther King Bridge. Officer Catoggio immediately went to the suspect’s residence, but didn’t find him. For the next four days, Officer Catoggio searched when he had time and finally found the man near his home.

After the arrest, Officer Catoggio notified Det. Travers and asked if there was anything he was looking for at the scene in relation to the crime. Det. Travers said he was looking for the victim’s cell phone so Officer Catoggio allowed the man to retrieve his keys and two cell phones from his home before being transported to Headquarters for an interview. Once there, the phones were seized and the victim positively identified one as being taken during the robbery. Without Officer Catoggio’s initiative and forethought, this key piece of evidence could have been missed. Good job!
