Today’s Good News

From identifying and tracking down a loved one’s killer to preserving the evidence and investigating crimes involving children, our Major Crimes detectives work some of the most challenges crimes in the city. We recently recognized several of them for their accomplishments. In the Homicide Unit, we congratulated Detectives Michael Gouldman, David Burt, Ed Aeschlimann, Jeffrey Crewell and Joe Fultz for having a 100 percent clearance rate in solving homicides. The Department named Youth and Family Crimes Detective Steve Kendell and Forensics Detective John Cary as Detective of the Year for their respective units not only for the cases they worked, but also for their leadership with their unit and going above and beyond their normal duties.



Detective Sandy Ledbetter-Clarkson was also named Detective of the Year for the Major Crimes Team for having a hand in the arrest of 20 of 2012’s 40 murderers and investigatory work on many more. Detective Ledbetter-Clarkson and the U.S. Marshals Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested a total of 795 fugitives in 2012 on 1,703 charges. Detectives John Bridges and William Travers were named Aggravated Assault Detectives of the Year for their remarkable investigative skills, determination and efforts to build good relationships within the Richmond community.
