Today’s Good News
A woman recently called to thank Second Precinct Officer Monica Powell for everything she did when the woman’s son died while in police custody at the hospital. The woman said she appreciated Officer Powell’s attempts to find out what was going on that night as well as all of the support she gave her in dealing with the news of her son’s death. Whenever someone dies in police custody, there is a natural tendency for someone to think the police did something—and the woman had some of those same suspicions--but because of Officer Powell’s actions and kindness, the woman and her family said they have faith that officers treated their son fairly while they await the results of the autopsy and police investigation. Officer Powell’s efforts were not only a great help to the woman and her family, but also the Department as a whole. Thank you Officer Powell.
