Today’s Good News

It’s not always the major crimes or the big events that bring police officers and citizens together. For one man recently, it was the small, but incredibly inconvenient act of having a large tree branch fall on his car in the Fan. “I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly someone arrived. Third Precinct Officer Michael Lockard was very courteous and professional and called last night to get some follow-up information. He told me the report would be submitted today,” the man wrote. “By the way, RPD Officer Lockard is a good guy.”

A woman recently emailed to thank the Department for the increase in officers patrolling on bicycles. “This evening I was on Jahnke Road when I saw all the police officers on bikes.  I love this and I want to thank all of them so much!  I am so pleased with this new and forward thinking approach to police paroling and community interaction,” she wrote. “I hope this be a regular thing for the Westover Gardens neighborhood! Things have improved greatly in the last two years in our area and I feel this is because of the police and public working together to identify and correct problem issues. Please make sure you thank those officers for all of us!”

Today’s Good News

Second Precinct Officer Joseph Dillon recently responded to assist the Richmond Fire Department with a vehicle that had caught fire and he immediately requested backup. With the assistance of Officers Christopher Meade and Jason Pritchard, they kept calm under duress and helped move victims to safety, all while keeping the area clear for firefighters. Good job!

Thanks to the observant eyes and quick response by two Fourth Precinct officers, a man breaking into vehicles was quickly arrested. Officers Donnie Watkins was the first officer on scene when the victim called to report a man breaking into his car on North 7^th Street. After Officer Watkins broadcast the suspect’s description, Officer Tanekia Owens-Turner recognized the suspect as the man she had just driven past. She and Officer Watkins immediately drove back to the area and arrested the man. Good work officers!

Today’s Good News

Third Precinct Officers Jose Marte, Keir Hinton, Kenneth Coleman and K-9 Officer Sammy Hernandez and K-9 Niko were recently in the 200 block of Stafford Street around 2 a.m. when they saw three people yelling that their home had just been burglarized and the burglars were running down the street. The two burglars had entered a home on Grove Avenue moments earlier and stolen an iPad and bottles of wine before they were spotted by the victims. Thanks to the officers’ quick response, both men were caught, arrested and charged with felony burglary. The iPad and bottles of wine were also recovered. Good job!

Kudos to Officer Bridgitte Withers-Dyke who was named Fourth Precinct’s Officer of the Month for August! Officer Withers-Dyke had a significant arrest last month that resulted in the seizure of 22 grams of crack cocaine, marijuana and $800 in cash. All of this from a traffic stop for a defective taillight on Missouri Avenue. When Officer Withers-Dyke approached the driver, he became very nervous, leading her to request to search the vehicle. Her hunch paid off. She found the contraband inside the driver’s side door panels, and charged the driver with possession of marijuana and possession of cocaine with intent to distribute. Good work Officer Withers-Dyke!
