Today’s Good News

Thanks to a concerned citizen’s tip and some quick thinking by officers, two arrests may have put a serious dent in a recent rash of car break-ins in the Bellevue neighborhood. When Fourth Precinct Officers Nicholas Stirrett, Willie O’Neil and Naitraj David received a call about two men breaking into vehicles on Brook Road this week, they coordinated their approach to surprise and arrest the offenders as they sat inside a vehicle stealing items.

After the arrest, the officers backtracked the caller’s detailed description of where the suspects had been and located additional victims and Officer Stirrett also followed up with the detectives to help identify other related incidents. The Department would like to commend these officers, thank the observant citizen and remind everyone to lock their vehicles and never leave anything valuable inside!

Today’s Good News

Third Precinct Officer Brian Vessel recently responded to an unusual burglary call around 3 a.m. at a business on West Broad Street. A citizen reported that a man was stuck in a ventilation system on the roof of the business and calling for help. When Officer Vessel arrived, he saw the man dangling from the ventilation shaft halfway inside the building. With the assistance of the Fire Department and EMS units, the would-be burglar was safely removed and charged with burglary and destruction of private property.

Today’s Good News

You can run from Richmond Police, but you can’t hide. One robber found that out recently when he stole a woman’s purse on West Cary Street at night then tried to run from officers. Third Precinct Officers Marley Williams and William McAuliffe responded and drove through a nearby alley where they spotted him and then pursued him on foot until Officer McAuliffe found him hiding under a car four blocks away. Good work! The Department would also like to commend a nearby witness who stayed to talk with investigators about what he saw and recovered the victim’s purse. Thank you!

Fourth Precinct Officer Michael Nyantakyi recently responded to Norton Street for a report of an attempted robbery and quickly broadcast the suspects’ description. Officer Paul Campbell spotted the suspects’ vehicle on Leigh Street and Officers Sergio Montalvan and Michael DiSalvo stopped the vehicle and detained the three men. After being interviewed by Detective John Walker, the trio was charged with robbery. Quick work officers!

Second Precinct Officer Greg Boyles was recently asked to locate a stolen truck that was tracked to a home on Castlewood Road. As Officer Boyles investigated, he learned that the man driving the truck was still inside the residence. Inside the home in plain view, Officer Boyles spotted marijuana and two firearms. He safely detained the man in the home and called for backup. As a result of his good investigation, the man was charged with two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession with intent to distribute marijuana and grand larceny. Good work!
