Today’s Good News A good arrest by First Precinct officers on Monday reminds us of the famous Far Side cartoon by Gary Larsen. Officers Michael Stinger and Jordan Clark were in the area when they heard the call go out about a robbery in progress at a business on Q Street. They arrived on scene in less than a minute and found store employees trying to detain the robber. It wasn’t too hard. After the robbery, the suspect was baffled when he couldn’t flee through the doors. He pushed and pushed, but the doors would not open. When arrested, he finally saw the sign: PULL. With the assistance of Detective Tori Wilson and Sergeant Russell Pearce, the man was interviewed, charged accordingly and the stolen cash and firearm recovered. Good work officers! Today’s Good News

Kudos to Fourth Precinct Detective Dale Shamburg who was named the Department’s Problem Solver of the Month for December! After a spate of armed robberies at businesses across the city since October, the Fourth Precinct Focus Mission Team was tasked with taking the lead to solve them.

Detective Shamburg attended all meetings when case updates were discussed and volunteered with late night surveillances conducted on possible suspects connected to the robberies. On Dec. 27, the FMT Tactical Unit came in contact with two possible suspects during the execution of a search warrant.  The two suspects were transported back to the precinct to be interviewed by Detective Shamburg.

Thanks to his good interviewing skills and hard work, he obtained a confession from one of the suspects and identified other individuals who were involved in the crimes. This was KEY to cracking the case! Even though the investigation is still ongoing, one of the individuals will be charged in all eight robberies as well as indicted for other robberies.

This great work is in addition to Detective Shamburg’s good work solving other crimes and obtaining a 50 percent clearance rate for robberies and shoplifting as well as a 100 percent clearance rate for motor vehicle thefts. Thank you and congratulations Fourth Precinct Detective Dale Shamburg!

Today’s Good News

Kudos to Officer Jerry Scott who was named Fourth Precinct’s Officer of the Month for December! Thanks to Officer Scott’s speedy response to an in-progress burglary call last month on Seminary Avenue, the offender was quickly arrested. Two officers were following the burglar’s trail out of the home when they spotted Officer Scott detaining the man just 80 feet from the residence. The victim identified the burglar and after further investigation, they found a firearm and drugs on his person and charged him with multiple narcotics offenses, illegal firearm possession, burglary and another outstanding warrant.

Because of his experience in truancy matters, Officer Scott was also asked to conduct at least one truancy sweep per week last month, and thanks to his efforts, he was able to stop and speak with at least 20 students in reference to such issues. On at least two occasions the sweeps produced people that were wanted in other jurisdictions. Thank you and congratulations Officer Jerry Scott!

Today’s Good News

Kudos to Officer Steven Gibson who was named Third Precinct’s Officer of the Month for December! Officer Gibson likes to stay busy and proactive so it was likely that solid work ethic that helped him make a quick arrest when he responded to a robbery call at a Rite-Aid on Jahnke Road last month. After hearing the suspect description, Officer Gibson searched the area, spotted the suspect and after a short foot pursuit, quickly took him into custody. After the victims identified the suspect, Officer Gibson was also able to recover all the items stolen in the robbery and obtain a full confession. He passed the information to detectives, who were then able to charge the suspect with robbery.

The robbery victims told Officer Gibson’s supervisors how appreciative they were for his actions and professionalism and said they felt saver knowing he was patrolling the area where they work.

Officer Gibson has also had a positive impact in the community by conducting outdoor roll calls during which he also takes the time to speak with residents about crime trends and explain what the department is doing to help deter the crimes. Thank you and congratulations Officer Steven Gibson!

Today’s Good News

Kudos to Officer Joseph Dillon who was named Second Precinct’s Officer of the Month for December! Officer Dillon’s attitude, motivation and enthusiasm play a huge part in his effective patrols. Last month, he responded to 93 radio calls, 16 self-initiated calls and assisted 15 other calls in addition to 15 walking hours of patrol.

This would explain why he is well known and trusted by residents in Sector 213. Officer Dillon frequently stops by businesses in order to get to know the business owners and employees. He also gives out robbery prevention tips to help with reducing crimes in the area and makes it a priority to be visible in his sector because he’s found it’s a good deterrent to quality of life issues such as prostitution and narcotics.

Late in the month, Officer Dillon was thanked for great police work by a commonwealth’s attorney when handling a domestic assault call that led to a conviction. Officer Dillon went the extra step and got a written statement from both the victim and witness, which the prosecutor said was key in getting a conviction. Thank you and congratulations Officer Joseph Dillon!
