Today’s Good News
Fourth Precinct Officer Jill Simons recently responded to Westwood Avenue to investigate a burglary and as she approached, she saw a man inside the business. When the man saw her, he ducked down a hallway inside. Officer Simons then stationed herself outside one corner of the building, not knowing which way he would exit the building, while she waited for backup. Minutes later, the man walked right out of the door in front of her. With the assistance of other officers, they safely took him into custody. After further investigation by K-9 Officer Sammy Hernandez and K-9 Niko and Detective James Higgins, the man was charged with burglary. Good work officers!

Today’s Good News
First Precinct Officer Matthew Robinson recently responded to investigate the armed robbery of a man trying to sell a pair of shoes via Craigslist. The victim told officers the men flashed a gun and robbed him of several items, including the shoes. One of the robbers was spotted nearby and--despite having a brand new pair of stolen Air Jordans on his feet—was quickly caught by Detectives Michael Kirby, Tori Wilson and Brian Taylor. The investigation remains on going, but it makes us wonder—shouldn't the Department-issued shoes be the ones selling for $200 a pair?

Today’s Good News
Third Precinct Officer Manual Reyes recently responded to the area of Midlothian Turnpike and Carnation Street for a report of an armed robbery and a person shot. While en route to the scene, he also received a call about a burglary suspect in the same area who had been scared off and possibly cut his hand during the attempt. Officer Reyes quickly made the connection between the two calls and requested an officer go to the hospital where the “shooting” victim was being checked out. With the assistance of Detective Patrick Ripley, the man was detained for further investigation. The man quickly confessed to committing three burglaries in the area as well as breaking into a vehicle. Items found on his person also connected him to several other burglaries. Good work officers!

A family member of a man who died in a car accident earlier this year recently wrote to commend Crash and Reconstruction Team Officer Dave Edwards for his work and his kindness. “I wanted to let you know that Officer Edwards was and has been very supportive to me and my family during this difficult time. From the beginning, he has been there to answer any questions we had regarding the accident, explaining and providing any information that he could and keeping us well informed,” the woman wrote.

“Being compassionate, understanding and supportive has been much appreciated as me and my family try to comprehend what has happened and try to move on with our lives. For him to go above and beyond and be available for me has meant a great deal. Thank you.”

A woman recently wrote to thank Third Precinct Sergeant Chris Jernigan for his candid talk to students at St. Catherine’s High School. “Your talk on texting and driving impacted my daughter and my daughter's friends. The message you were trying to get out was received by these high schoolers,” she wrote. “These students are at an age when bad decisions can be made but with positive influences like Sergeant Jernigan perhaps they will think about the consequences.”

Today’s Good News

Second Precinct Officers Michael Eldridge, K’Lynne Robinson, Billy Gilbert and Sergeant Claude Picard were on a walking patrol recently when they smelled marijuana coming from an open window of a residence. They spoke with the resident inside before securing three other individuals and obtaining a search warrant, which revealed 44 individually-packaged bags of marijuana, cash, scales and other drug paraphernalia. They arrested one man for possession with intent to distribute and charged another with two felony warrants. Good work officers!

Several Fourth Precinct officers recently responded to the 3200 block of Lanvale Lane for a report of a burglary, but it was Officer Eric Livengood’s keen eyes that spotted the suspect wriggling underneath a nearby van. With the assistance of Officers Justin Miller, Ashley Wood and Michael DiSalvo, the man was safely taken into custody. Further investigation by the officers and Detectives Todd Perseghin and Richard Thomas revealed the man had cut the fence to break into the property and steal several spools of copper wire. Good work everyone!
