Today’s Good News

Kudos to Officer Floyd Campbell who was named First Precinct’s Officer of the Month for March! To improve quality of life, Officer Campbell focused on speeders. He ran 26 hours of radar patrol and requested a speed trailer on Hull Street. He has also taken the issue of drunken driving to heart and is working on his own time to establish a local chapter of DADD—Dads Against Drunk Driving. The goal is the same: To keep young, inexperienced drivers from dying by making the mistake of driving under the influence. Sgt. Matt Edgar nominated Floyd because of “his tireless work ethic and drive to make a difference.” Sounds like two great reasons!

Today’s Good News

In early March, Second Precinct Officer Stanley Sutton noticed a spike of car break-ins in the area of Semmes and Forest Hill avenues. He coordinated efforts with another officer and set up a high visibility patrol presence in that area during the evening hours and other times of the crime spikes. He also met with a local business owner and in less than a month, the spike had dropped to just one reported car break-in. One of the area’s longtime residents called to commend Officer Sutton’s efforts. “I have lived here for years and it has never been this quiet,” he said. “Thank you!”

Today’s Good News

While recently assisting other officers during a fight call in the 2000 block of West Broad Street, Third Precinct Officer Andre Guevara observed two people standing in a dark parking lot who appeared to be engaged in illegal drug activity. As Officer Guevara walked toward the pair, they separated, but with the help of Officer Benjamin Frazer, they stopped and arrested two men and a woman. As a result of his keen observation and investigation, one man was charged with felony possession of marijuana with intent to distribute as well as two warrants from Colonial Heights; the second man was charged with possession of cocaine; and the woman may also face a drug charge. The officers also seized drugs, a digital scale and drug packaging material. Good work!

Today’s Good News

After a month of investigation into a series of burglaries on the city’s Southside and neighboring Chesterfield County, Second Precinct Detective Pedro Riddle was able to crack the case! Through his efforts and contributions to a solid interdepartmental operation, two juveniles and an adult were identified and arrested on numerous charges. As a result, 14 city burglary cases were cleared as well as six cases in the county. Det. Riddle was also able to recovered substantial amounts of the stolen property. Good job!

Today’s Good News

First Precinct Focus Mission Team officers were recently patrolling an area on North 35^th Street that had received numerous complaints for drug trafficking and nuisance complaints when Officer Harry Fitzpatrick spotted a known wanted person. The person was wanted for several crimes and had an indictment on file for burglary. As Officer Fitzpatrick and Officer Kenneth Custer approached the man and attempted to arrest him, he ran, but was quickly caught. During the incident, the officers also found two bags containing drugs on the man’s person. Officer Fitzpatrick’s keen eye and knowledge of wanted persons in Sector 111 has greatly helped to reduce crimes in several neighborhoods. Good work!
