Today’s Good News
Taking the kids trick or treating tonight? Please stay safe by accompanying all young children and encouraging them to walk—not run—from house to house and to use the sidewalk if possible rather than walk in the street. Children should also be cautioned against running out from between parked cars. Parents should also inspect all treats carefully for tampering before they are eaten. People expecting trick-or-treaters should remove anything that could be an obstacle from lawns, steps and porches. Candlelit jack-o'-lanterns should be kept away from landings and doorsteps where costumes could brush against the flame. Indoor jack-o'-lanterns should be kept away from curtains, decorations, and other furnishings that could be ignited. And finally, Happy Halloween from the Richmond Police Department!

Today’s Good News
After a recent outdoor roll call, First Precinct Officer Mary Gary and several other officers conducted a warrant sweep in the Whitcomb Court area. When Officer Gary knocked on the door of one residence looking for a wanted man, a female answered the door and adamantly denied knowing the man. Moments later, Officer Gary spotted the man jump up and run out of the back of the house. Officers quickly arrested the man, but Officer Gary continued to investigate and discovered the woman was the wanted man’s girlfriend and that there were narcotics in the home that belonged to him. Thanks to Officer Gary’s dedication to the job, the wanted man was found and charged with violating his probation as well as possessing illegal drugs. The girlfriend was also charged with obstruction of justice.

Today’s Good News
Fourth Precinct Officers William Dickerson and Jerry Scott recently responded to investigate an armed robbery on Monteiro Avenue and as they pulled up, they saw the suspect quickly shedding clothing and running away. They broadcast the best description they could and Officer Brian Smith spotted and stopped the suspect nearby with the assistance of Officers Justin Land, Michael Disalvo and Robert Kleinholz. K-9 Officer James Turner and K-9 Arek tracked the suspect’s path and found some the victim’s stolen items and the suspect’s change of clothing while the suspect was interviewed by Detective Dale Shamburg, identified by the victim and then charged with robbery. Good teamwork!

Today’s Good News
Third Precinct Detective Patrick Ripley never slows down when it comes to investigations. During the past month, he investigated several crimes that resulted in the identification and arrest of six individuals wanted for several robberies and burglaries. One person was wanted in connection with 12 break-ins and another also had warrants on file for crimes in another jurisdiction. But thanks to Detective Ripley’s diligence, solid investigation and good relationships with neighboring police agencies, all of these criminals have been arrested or identified. And he even found time to volunteer at elementary schools in the Fan area to discuss crime prevention, and at a high school to talk to those interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement. Thank you Detective Ripley!

Today’s Good News
Second Precinct Officers Richard McTernan and Obie Arrington were on patrol recently when they heard a suspect description broadcast from an armed robbery that had occurred on Clarkson Road. Thanks to their keen observation skills, they spotted suspects matching the robbers’ descriptions several neighborhoods away. As they approached the group, everyone ran. The officers gave chase and arrested one of the suspects without incident. They also recovered the victim’s property and a firearm used during the crime. Good work!

The officers gave chase and arrested one of the suspects without incident. They also recovered the victim’s property and a firearm used during the crime. Good work!

Today’s Good News
A citizen called this week to compliment Second Precinct Officers Loynell Jefferson, Ezequiel Canete and Michael Wheeler (who just graduated from the 107th Basic Recruit Class two weeks ago) for a job well done. The compliment stemmed from a call for service for a theft from building that occurred earlier in the day on Olive Avenue.
The citizen stated these officers took the time to hear his complaint about missing items from his home, treated with him kindness and respect and then explained which VA Code section applied to his situation. He felt Richmond Police was on his side, he said. The citizen went on to say he can sleep well at night knowing officers within the City of Richmond Police Department care.
